Gynecological conditions we treat

We rely on the latest research and advancements to screen, diagnose and treat a wide range of gynecological conditions, including:

  • Endometriosis – Affecting 10 to 15 percent of women, endometriosis is a common condition in which the tissue that behaves like the cells lining the uterus (endometrium) grows in other areas of the body, causing pain, irregular bleeding and possible infertility. Our gynecologists are experienced in diagnosing and treating endometriosis and provide non-surgical and surgical solutions to help alleviate symptoms.
  • Heavy menstrual flow – While a heavier flow on certain days of your cycle can be normal, if you are noticing an increase in menstrual flow that is interfering with your work, causing low blood counts or soiling your clothes, it may be time to discuss the situation with your gynecologist. We offer a range of treatment options to address both the causes and symptoms of a heavy menstrual flow.
  • Incontinence – Incontinence, or loss of bladder control, may be caused by physical changes from pregnancy and childbirth or by menopause or hormonal changes. Our physicians provide care for several types of urinary incontinence, including stress, urge, and mixed incontinence, and work with you to understand the underlying cause and find a solution.
  • Menopause – Falling hormone levels during menopause may cause several uncomfortable symptoms, including palpitations, sleep difficulties, decreased libido, mood swings, urine leakage and joint aches. We partner with you throughout this phase of life as you consider treatment options for these symptoms and will work with you to help you feel like yourself again.
  • Osteoporosis – When women go through menopause, they are also at an increased risk of developing osteoporosis, a bone disease that is characterized by low bone mass and architectural changes that make bones more fragile. Our office can also provide guidance and screening tests to help prevent this condition.
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) – Our team is familiar with the symptoms and treatment of PCOS, and in addition to a diagnosis, we can help you navigate and manage this condition.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) – We offer preventive and follow-up care for a range of STDs, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomas, herpes, human papillomavirus (HPV), and syphilis. We also provide services for complications that may arise as a result of STDs, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
  • Uterine fibroids – In addition to evaluating and treating fibroids, we are skilled in treating any conditions that may occur due to uterine fibroids, such as infertility or pregnancy complications.
  • Vaginal discharge – While some discharge is normal, an abnormal amount or change in texture, color or odor of discharge may be a reason to visit our gynecologists. In addition to conditions like yeast infections, we can treat conditions that include bacterial vaginosis, atrophic vaginitis, issues with forgotten tampons or foreign bodies and a range of other vaginal infections and skin conditions.
  • Vaginal dryness – Often caused by a drop in estrogen levels, vaginal dryness is a painful condition that can affect your physical and sometimes even your emotional well-being. Our Dallas OB/Gyns will work with you to discover what is causing your vaginal dryness and will recommend the treatment that best fits with your lifestyle.

Gynecology treatments and services we provide

Our gynecologists offer extensive surgical and non-surgical treatment options to meet your needs. We work with you to understand your condition and symptoms, listen to your concerns and develop a plan that works with your lifestyle. Some of the treatments we may recommend might include:

  • Bone density scans
  • Endometrial ablation
  • Hormonal therapy
  • Hysterectomy
  • Intrauterine devices (IUDs)
  • Laparoscopic treatments
  • Non-hormonal medications, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or tranexamic acid
  • Oral contraceptive pills
  • Progesterone pills or injections
  • Ultrasounds

Medical laser treatments

Our office is proud to offer an FDA-approved, in-office medical laser treatment for relief from painful intercourse and the symptoms of atrophic vaginitis or vaginal atrophy. The therapy does not involve hormones, discomfort or downtime. Our OB/Gyns have been specially trained in this non-invasive procedure, which requires only three treatment sessions lasting just five minutes each.

The results are immediate, and since it is a non-surgical treatment, anesthesia is not required. You may feel a light vibration in the treatment area, and experience some minor, localized discomfort a few hours after the treatment session, but you should be able to resume your normal activities the same day. If you think this treatment may be right for you, ask your gynecologist at your next appointment with us.

Urodynamics

If you experience any kind of incontinence, our office offers urodynamics, a testing of the bladder and urethra to see how they are performing. This helps our team understand the underlying cause of the incontinence, so we can better treat your symptoms.

Advanced treatments for uterine fibroids

Depending of the severity of your fibroids, we offer a range of treatment options, beginning with an ultrasound or other scan. The course of treatment is based on symptoms, degree of anemia, and desire for future pregnancies. Expectant management is usually chosen if symptoms are minimal or nonexistent, but if the symptoms can’t be managed with medications, we also offer additional treatments including:

  • Hysteroscopic resection of fibroids
  • Uterine artery embolization
  • Myomectomy
  • Hysterectomy
  • Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound

We consider it a privilege to serve generations of women who trust us with their gynecology care. Make your appointment now and find out why peers and patients consistently recognize Health Central Women’s Care as one of Dallas's best OB/GYN groups.
